Through the years, organizational design of supply management groups at large global companies has shifted between decentralized and centralized designs. Decentralized design has become less common because it complicates leveraging corporate spend, aligning with business unit goals, and sharing best practices. But centralized design also has drawbacks including limited regional expertise, slower reaction times, and increased risk of maverick spend.
